Afternoon with the Artist Application

Arden Craft Shop Museum & Arden Artisan Collective present:

AFTERNOON WITH THE ARTIST

Artisans Application

Rolling Application

WHAT:  Afternoon with the Artist are Sunday afternoon salons that take place in the Bernie Schwab Community Room of the Arden Craft Shop Museum during its open hours of 1-3 PM. The purpose of the salons is to showcase the ongoing, living practices of artists within the Ardens and in the context and backdrop of the historical tradition of Arts and Crafts in which the community is rooted. It is a chance for artists/artisans to showcase their work in what we hope will be a variety of mediums over the course of a year.

1.     Approximately 15- 25 multiple size 2D works to be hung, and space for others on table easels. Number of pieces determined by artist and Liaison for AAC and ACSM

2.     Room for 5 bust-sized 3D pieces displayed on workbench plus room for other pieces on an additional table. Number of pieces determined by artists and Liaison for AAC and ACSM

The artist will also have a chance to talk about their work at a predetermined time in the afternoon. It is possible that work can remain on display for a few weeks following the salon to take advantage of museum visitors on subsequent viewing hours on Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons. In the case of May, work will stay up through the House & Garden Tour. In the case of August, art will stay up through the Arden Fair. The artist will be expected to be present for the opening of the show (actual Afternoon with the Artist event) and be available to monitor show during House & Garden Tour/Arden Fair (if that applies) or find volunteer(s) to monitor. Bev Hawkins will be the liaison between artist/AAC/ACSM, helping to coordinate hanging, take down, and marketing of show.

No admission fee for application. Artists may have work for sale during showcase. Neither ACSM nor AAC will collect a commission on sold work. If selected, artist must sign form that releases ACSM and AAC from responsibility (damage, theft) while work is on display. ACSM and AAC will market the event through Arden Page, website calendars, social media platform, bulletin boards.

Several factors will go into deciding which artisans will be chosen, including desire of ACSM/AAC to shine a spotlight on a variety of mediums over the course of a year and the availability of the artisan. Special consideration will be given to artisans who are trying to increase their visibility and have not had village showcases in recent months. Artisans will be notified of acceptance status by email in early June 2023. We will keep applications on file for artisans who are not chosen for these few dates and consider them for upcoming opportunities.

Hard copies of the applications should be printed, filled out, and dropped off at the Arden Craft Shop Museum (1807 Millers Rd) during Museum hours Wed 7:30-9PM, Sun 1-3PM
