Intro to Figure Sculpting Class with Harold Kalmus

  • Globe Dye Works Building 4500 Worth Street Philadelphia, PA, 19124 United States (map)

Harold Kalmus will be teaching a two day intro to figure sculpture workshop at the Realist Art League at the Globe Dye Works in Philadelphia. It will be held Saturday, June 21 and 28. Cost will be $250 and assume another 30-40 in tools and materials.

This figure sculpture workshop will be an introduction to the basics of working three dimensionally. We will concentrate on quickly building major masses and proportionally relating them to one another, capturing the gesture of the pose. The importance of remaining aware that forms turn in space and are not frozen to a picture plane, constantly changing as one moves around the figure will be stressed. Although not to be the focus of the workshop, pertinent major anatomical features and landmarks will be discussed and demonstrated how they can assist in realizing a figure in the round. For this workshop we will work on a seated or reclining pose, thereby dispensing with the need for an armature and allowing us to dive right in, get our hands dirty, learn and have fun.
